Sketch Writing Workshop with Beth Appel of UCB

Sunday, November 9

Learn the basics of Upright Citizens Brigade-style comedy writing to turn your funny anecdotes into sketches! If you have ever had something funny happen to you and thought "this would make a funny sketch", this is the workshop for you. In this workshop you will learn the components that make up a sketch, how to format sketches and, most importantly, how to turn your "this would make a funny sketch" moment into a tangible written piece. No preparation or previous writing/comedy experience necessary!

Beth Appel is a performer, writer and director currently based out of New York and Los Angeles. She grew up in Denver and performed at Bovine Metropolis with On the Spot and Sketchers throughout high school and during college breaks. Beth attended Vassar College where she was a member of the not at all embarrassingly named sketch comedy group Happily Ever Laughter.

Beth teaches sketch comedy writing at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater (UCB) and has been a member of house improv and sketch teams at UCB for several years. She has written, directed and performed in countless sketch shows at UCB, the Magnet Theater, the People's Improv Theater and more.

Beth has also appeared on MTV and has written and appeared in web videos for College Humor and UCB Comedy.
