Denver's Next Improv Star, Season 10: Saturday, November 17, 2018, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Directed by Eric Farone, Judges: Eric Farone & Lucky Johnston, Host: Denise Maes

Now in its 10th successful year, walk in the footsteps of 129 Bovinians that have been in Denver's Next Improv Star!

The way to win Season 10 of Denver's Next Improv Star? Make your competition look great! This seeming contradiction is at the heart of improvisational theater and a skill that every winner must demonstrate. Every week, a different theater expert is a guest judge. Players are judged on creativity, improv skills, comedic timing, stage presence and a special focus on the expertise of that week's Guest Judge. Each week, Judges eliminate one contestant, while the others vie for prizes, like restaurant gift cards, theater tickets and indoor skydiving party packages. Of the course the biggest grand prize of all is being named Denver's Next Improv Star!

House Team Auditions: Saturday, December 1, 2018, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Coached by Emily Treece and Hilary Hellums

Brand New Bovine House Team - Coached by Emily Rey

A Bovine House Team for people to explore their individual identity and celebrate their diverse backgrounds and experiences through the art of improvisation. This ensemble is intended for individuals who wish to create an improv space which is safe; respecting and encouraging its members to express their truth through comedy. The group will work in cohesion to create a strong foundation on which to play and develop a form that is unique to each individual’s strengths at the direction of Emily Rey, coach for the Bovine Metropolis Theater.

Recognizing Denver’s diverse populations, acknowledging our common bond as humans, and the theater's conscious intention to encompass all voices; women, people of color, people with disabilities, Latinx, LGBTQ+, and non-binary individuals are highly encouraged to audition.  Please note, the Bovine Metropolis Theater is not ADA Accessible and there are two flights of stairs in the building. Auditioners must climb one flight of stairs to the audition space and rehearsals are often held on the second floor.

Brand New Bovine House Team - Coached by Hilary Hellums

My vision is to create a group that will create characters and flesh them out in rehearsal and then take them to the stage to put them in a play. There will be no push to be funny here; we want it all. Serious, drama, funny, emotions, real relationships. A true improvised 1-Act play. Actors can even use costumes and props for their characters to further embody their characters.

We will start with regular rehearsals at first to build group mind; exercises, long form play. We will create the characters. Actors will have several weeks to flesh out their characters and work with relationship partners; this will be done at rehearsals. Emphasis will be on character depth, some method acting techniques, and structure of the form itself.

The goal to start is to have the characters perform for an audience a few times; then we dump those and create a new batch of characters. For those of who have wanted to do more “acting” and/or have more time to build and work with a character, this is your chance.
